As I am working to build my business, I am definitely re-evaluating a lot of things in my life. One of those things I am re-evaluating is how I see money. Money is important to reach goals of any kind, and while it does not buy you happiness, there is a fair argument to say that it does give you the tools you need to build the life you want. As many of you may know, I have changed things in my life. I passed my Masters degree by the grace of God and I am now also building a copywring/digital marketing business which is exciting yet fraught with challenges. In this post, I want to delve into two parts of my life that I spend money on:
Hair: I would say that while I still love natural hair and I am an avid hair watcher, I probably am likely to spend more money on my hair yet spend less time on it if this makes sense. I love the idea of having gorgeous hair but I do not want to spend hours of my own time doing this hair, which is why I can feel myself transitioning away from doing my own hair and going to the salon. Since I moved back to Tanzania, I am spending more money going to the hair salon and I like that kind of instant gratfication of getting my hair looking glossy and ready for the day.
Another thing I have noticed about my current needs about my hair is that I don’t want to cut corners with my hair. I don’t necessarily believe that you have spend hundreds of pounds to get the ideal hairstyle for you, but I think with the workload I have gotten since starting my business, my priorities have changed. I think constantly about how I want my hair to look like but I must say, my business takes priority right now. This is why I understand the need to have hair salons that cater to black women want to be in and out of getting their hair done.
I think it’s possible to be in love with black hair but not have as much time to devote to it anymore. This is also okay – and I have noticed this change is being voted with my wallet as well. I am willing to spend money on products and going to the hair salon more because I want an immediate result.
What is your attitude to money? I’d love to know – share with me in the comments.
