Just caught this on Necole Bitchie. Felicity, ph2072 and all my other Rihanna fans, your girl is improving. I have to agree with the consensus on some of the blogs that this sounds like a mini-Back Up. Sorry, but it does. Beyonce does the echo effect really well on Back Up and I can see Rihanna trying to emulate that here.
I am not saying she is copying, b/c this whole idea of ‘copying’ is bullshit. We live in post modern times where nothing is ever really original.
It’s like, yes, Rihanna has had some banging songs (I still play SOS & Sexuality when I go jogging) but her inexperience at singing also comes through on this song. And also, why do we need to hear Chris Brown rapping? Okay, he doesn’t sound too bad…but still I want that boy to sing, not ‘A Mili’ all over the gaff.
I need to hear this next girl’s album before I am thoroughly convinced as to whether she is an album artist, or a singles artist. Def Jam also have to stop fucking re-releasing girlfriend’s album.
LMAO @ when Rihanna says: “All them girls be checking my bag, why they be biting my swag”. I have to admit, that is a good line, it made me crease. I don’t see what the big deal about Rihanna’s style is. Go to Paris or London’s East End and you’ll see girls dressed like her and Lady Gaga from 2 years ago!
3/5 coals: this song will grow on you! Looks like Polow is taking lessons from Rich Harrison.

@ph2072: I think the thing with her is that she is not a good singer, so she sounds good on songs that have great production, like Bad Girl or Rehab, the latter which I loved so much that I even blogged about.
She is growing on me. I think the real make or break will be with the next album. It can’t be about style or looks – just sound.

Oddly enough, I’ve never purchased her music because I used to think that she was garbage. But I saw her perform over the summer and she performed well and sounded much better than I thought. That’s when I had a newfound respect for her and began looking for her music on music websites.
She’s the same, yet she’s different. Another reason why I like Ciara in addition to Rihanna.
