Worst.Documentary.Ever.

There are no words to describe how fucking awful this documentary is. I was working on my French dissertation last night whilst watching Jools Holland on the BBC (yay for Santogold!) and then this documentary came on. Initially, I was intrigued to see that it was about the Roc-a-fella tour that Beyonce’s husband was on with a host of other rap artists. Unfortunately, not even Beyonce’s husband (now known as BH in this post) could save this.

Awful Moment #1: I don’t want see Damon Dash acting out his Napoleon complex by barking off at people! I am really not interested!

Awful Moment #2: Method Man & Redman thinking they are bad because they are smoking weed.  I don’t think that sends a healthy message to the young children who look up to these artists, and who these artists take money from.

Awful Moment #3: Beanie Sigel calling a collection of girls ”groupie bitches”.

Awful Moment #4: The exclusion of Amil from any interesting discussion or interviews. She is only referred to for little parts….

Awful Moment #5: One of the members of the entourage trying to get women to take off their tops so he can see their breasts. This seemed quite bad until he touched one of girls breasts by lifting her top. Some next girl gyrates on him.

Awful Moment #6: Continuation of Awful Moment #5 - This man finds a girl who lifts her top to reveal her bare chest. He grabs her fucking nipple. What happens next can only be described as her presumably accompanying him to a toilet to perform oral on him.

I think this documentary is the worst excuse for promotion of hip hop in the world. I know that some segments of the hip hop movement in the US have been described as misogynistic but some of the scenes in this documentary were extremely difficult to watch. Why do people sanction this behaviour towards women ? Why is it okay for women to have their chests pinched at as it is normal ? I know the girls were not forced against their will but why should those men feel like it is alright to be like that ?

I’m disappointed but not surprised. A man who can treat women like dolls to be poked at hates women. I know how it feels to be poked at (that happened to me once in Martinique in a phone shop). It is harassment even though the women seem to not even realise by taking off their tops.

Wow, sounds pretty disgusting. The problem is that even though these girls are willing, most women are not. So these fools think they can try that with every single woman. Their attitude spills over to all women. In my opinion it’s NEVER okay for a man to disrespect a woman, even if she doesn’t respect herself.

@Aisha, exactly! I was telling my boyfriend about this last night and he was saying that those girls shouldn’t be looked at as victims as it is consensual. but i disagree in the sense like the way you said it is never okay for a man to disrespect a woman. Because these men know that the world is sexist, they should be act stringently to ensure that their behaviour is not sexist.

Sigh. I’m just done w/alot of rap anyway. Grown ass men acting as if they are a bunch of horny, uncontrolled, stupid teens. It’s not funny, cute or entertaining. No one ever wants to take responsibility for anything, of course. Disrespectful behavior is always someone else’s fault.

    Clowns!

I saw it this Friday/Saturday morning, I just couldn’t watch much. I had come from a friend and she was playing Snoop Dog and 50 cent and I was filling angry and depressed and I cannot stand their music and seeing this documentary, it was just too much, I was only able to take it a some doses. ‘Where my N…… and where my bitches’. That was just too much and according to another person who saw it, there was a white guy there who was supposed to be one groups accountant or accounts manager, he was shouted ‘where my bitches’ and a group of white and black girls were around him. The part I had to leave was a horrible girl screaming out until she was almost lost her voice. I wish she did loose her voice’Jay-Z…I love you Jay-Z, I’m your bitch, if you were poor, you could come to me’. What is going on? That was an extremely painful, painful documentary to watch. That is why I don’t watch much television, because of this vile, disguisting rubbish.

@sdg1844, thank you!!! I completely agree. I just think that these men should be more responsible. They are not being responsible at all. It is an embarrassment, frankly.is that address your new blog btw, sdg1844

@Felicity, I am assuming that you live in the UK if you say the prog @ the same time as me. I wholly agree with your thoughts. It was such a painful experience as a woman to watch. It makes you wonder, why do these men do this ? What do they think that they achieve from doing this ?
