Fact-checking: Who wrote the song “Umbrella”?

Posted in Music with tags on March 29, 2008 by aulelia

I went onto msn.co.uk and saw the headline “Britney could have had Umbrella”. With interest, I checked out the story. Here is the link. What is bizarre about this story is not the subject but the fact that MSN.co.uk are reporting that Taio Cruz wrote Umbrella when it is common knowledge that The Dream & Tricky Stewart wrote the hit song. Am I mistaken ? I am a massive news junkie but I swear there must be some sort of fact-checking error here. Taio Cruz is an up and coming London singer, I just do not think he wrote “Umbrella” because it was well reported that the Dream came up with the irritating “ay ays” of the song.

Read this Telegraph March 2008 article about Taio Cruz. It is clear from the article (which MSN took from) that he did not write Umbrella but yet MSN wrote it like he wrote Umbrella. This is horrible fact-checking. I am a newspaper and magazine addict and bad fact-checking does not help titles.

Love is a losing game
Love can be a shame I
know of a fool, you see for that fool is me”

–Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers from their hit song “Why Do Fools Fall in Love ?”

This song sums up pretty much exactly how I feel at the moment. Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers have asked a fundamentally impossible question. It is a question with loads of differing answers, I imagine. I don’t know where this pensive mood of mine is coming from but I feel worried about my relationship. I don’t want it to end. Yet, there is not much you can do with you feel like the person you love has become emotionally unavailable to you.  I won’t go into too much depth, only to say that I feel so confused and hurt. I think when you first fall in love, when you are so wrapped up in how love makes you feel, your views on how things should be do not correlate with how things are. This is exactly where idealism crushes reality in a single bout. Love is not glossy. Love is not sexy. It can hurt. and most often than not, it does hurt. Read more »
