go to the cinema by yourself? I went to the cinema yesterday to take a break from thinking about dissertations and I decided to go see ‘the Other Boleyn Girl’, which features Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman and Eric Bana. The film was…enjoyable! I know it did not get great reviews but sometimes mediocre films serve the purpose you need: entertainment. Yesterday, I felt like being entertained after feeling so down and I got exactly that.
It is definitely melodrama set in the lush so-called Tudor countryside but as a history addict, anything that is remotely historical will work for me. It is not a fantastic film but visually, very beautiful. Portman is a great actress and I like her for the Anne Boleyn character actually, Bana is very easy on the eyes and it is a film that does not demand a lot from the spectator. I was quite surprised it got a 12A certificate here though with all the images of sex, looks like the film certificates are changing! I went by myself yesterday since other plans fell through and I enjoyed myself. I love going to the cinema. I don’t understand the exact lure of pirate films that much (lol, maybe this is because I got paid on Friday) but it is nice sometimes to escape from your troubles in a dark room with celluloid in front of you.
Film wise, I don’t know of any great big releases coming to England but I hope to watch some more interesting drama. I have noticed that I definitely prefer drama over any other genre these days. What genres and films does everyone else like ?
Oh, and yeah, I’ve gone to the movies alone. I thoroughly enjoy it that way.
I definitely don’t do horror/scary movies.
Everything else, I’m pretty open to if I hear from others that it’s good.
Every once in a while I’ll go by myself, cause I want to take a break from everything and everybody, like you did.
I see either something uber serious, or I go completely to the other end of the spectrum and see something stupid and/or funny.
I always feel better when I come out
Yes the last time I went to the cinema by my self was a few years ago to watch a Margaret Cho movie. I generally go to Carlton Cinemas in Toronto because the theater is so small. Also, I like Carlton Cinema because they tend to play the indie films that I like.
I’m pretty open as long as it’s interesting. I love Sci-Fi, but it’s hard to execute for alot of directors. I hate Romantic Comedies because they aren’t executed well either.
I love thrillers, action adventure and foreign film especially the work of the Mexican directors; Innaritu, Del Toro. Pan’s Labyrinth was one of the ebst films I’ve ever seen. Truly imaginative, tragic and beautiful. I also love Pedro Almodovar and Akira Kirosawa who made the most epic, amazing films I’ve ever seen.
As you can see, I spread the love as much as possible.
