BBC2 and the controversial ‘White’ programs

Greg Dyke, the ex-head of the BBC, once called the media juggernaut ”hideously white”, in reference to the extremely low number of people of colour working at the BBC. Lo and behold BBC2’s “white” season, a fortnight of programs and documentaries dedicated to answering the question: are the white working class really invisible in the United Kingdom ?

This question in itself is inflammatory because ethnic minorities in Britain are invisible on television and magazines for the most part anyway and we don’t have HALF as many programs and celebrities as say African-Americans! But I digress…Here is a promotional image of the ”white” season that was has been advertised BBC2:

The first program of the season starts tomorrow and is entitled “Last Orders”, about the declining ‘working men’s clubs’ in the North of England.  I am definitely going to be watching it and giving a review tomorrow to see exactly what the BBC are trying to achieve with this. Anyone who is interested in race in Europe or immigration should try and see what the bally-hoo is about. I am still sitting on the fence on WHY they have decided to do this because white people rule the airwaves and TV time ANYWAY here in England but I will be watching nonetheless.
