Just received my daily dose (doses lol) of concrete loop and stumbled across this image of one of my favourite singers, Beyonce*.
(image via concrete loop — this website does not even need a link)
She looks fantastic (black is just the colour, no ifs and butts people, this blog is a dictatorship lol). However, her hair. I don’t know. Mary J & Keyshia Cole have blonde weaves and they look disastrous!! And as much of a stan of Beyonce as I am, I don’t think the colour looks good on her. She is a black girl. What happened to embracing brown or even black hair ? Beyonce has had black and brown weaves before and has looked simply amazing (even the haters would agree). Do you think she has done this for the new Etta James film ? Can black girls where blonde hair or does it look contrived and fake ? I think this artificial look does not look natural, it is purely superficial, reaching for a new kind of beauty. Having sad that, the haircut that she in this image is fabulous. If it was in black, it would look absolutely incredible.
What I am finding also interesting about the coverage Beyonce is getting in black blogs is that many commenters are arguing how Rihanna is the new ‘it’ girl – that is a direct quote from one commenter on CL. I find this almost ludicrous. Rihanna cannot sing. How does being an ‘it girl’ matter more than vocal chords? Beyonce can sing the hell out of a mediocre Rihanna song. That is my stan blog post done for now!

Lol @ the sort of wig you would wear for your man. That doesn’t sound like half of a bad idea. I don’t think it looks trashy or anything. I just think the hair colour is all wrong. If it was in black, it would look sleek and stylish, in my opinion.
* = I know I did a recent post on her, don’t worry the blog will not be turning into a Beyonce fansite.

I’m little late for this thread…but did anyone see that L’Oreal ad when her skin was dramatically lightened to sell coloring that isn’t even her own (because she wears a friggin wig). Enough SAID!
I don’t think this sends any message to any women of any color other than if you got the money honey, you can have whatever hair style and color your want.
Some people think it looks exotic, others think it looks trashy but if it’s you donning the wig then it matters only to you and how you want to feel at that moment.
Really now.. how many people are not going to find it fake looking and are people that stupid to honestly believe she was born with blonde (platinum nonethess) hair? Try a few looks on yourself and have fun with life! I wore a mohawk for 4 years and it changed color a few times… and the best time to do this kinda thing is when you are young before the harpies THEN start in with, “Ain’t she a little old to be wearing her hair like that?”
I CAN NOT BELIVE THIS IS EVEN A TOPIC!…..GET A LIFE EVERYONE!….i come a cross this page by miss-take and just could not belive what i was reading.
Thank you i enjoyed reading your mail lmao!!!

@ukmixedchick, no one here is saying that you can’t have blonde hair. dont make blanket statements without reading the context of the post.
@sarah, great points about india arie, jill scott et al.
Hey guys I’m from the U.k and I am fairly light skinned/mixed my hair is naturally light brown, if I want some blonde highlights in my hair I’ll bloody well ave em. I mean I don’t agree with some people who say that ppl who have the blond hair are trying to be white or whatver, I mean I’m half white so , how the hell would I be trying to be white if I am white and half my family is white? Although with regards to ppl like mary j blige, I really don’t know who told her blond looks good on her it looks awful, you know blond just doesn’t suit everyone. Anyways who actually gives a toss about ppls hair anyway, no one has got the right to tell ppl how to be or what to look like.
Saludos…you nailed it. We need to stop blaming Whitey on the eurocentric craze within our community because we help perpetuate it. Beyonce’ would not be as popular in not only the mainstream, but our society as well if she were darker and rocked her natural hair. We don’t play up India Arie, Jill Scott, Eryka Badu, or Angie Stone as highly as we do B, now do we?? Hahaha…we are the biggest hyppocrites and we need to do something about it.
@kayla, you clearly know NOTHING about blogs like this because all the people here are black. twat.
Not every black girl has something fake about their hair ..so shut up sidra and come back with fact..whats wrong wid blonde hair yall dont say nothing whena white girl is rocking afros or curly hair which is natural among black women and lets not forget there are many different types of black those with nappy thick hair those with curly hair those with staright hair ..i hate when i come across websites like this it just proves how ignorant u ppl really are ….And plaease what do u white ppl really know about our race to judge assholes Peace ezzy
Every black girl i’ve ever seen has something fake about her hair-straightened, dyed, or even a weave. So why is it ok to be fake and have brown hair (an unnatural color for 99% of blacks) but having blonde hair is so bad? I do agree it looks fake, but it is just as fake as having brown extensions.
@Ashley, I don’t think anyone is disputing that Beyonce is not beautiful because she is a stunner. However, black women wearing predominately blonde hair all the time (ie, Mary) sends the wrong message regardless. It is not always about choices, sometimes the subtext can matter more.
Yes Beyonce looks awful in that wig but she’s still beautiful. AND let me say as a biracial woman, to say women of color go blonde to appeal to the white community is bullshit, so what is black, red, and brown appeal to? Just black women? BULLSHIT haircolor doesnt define anyone. Mary’s been rocking blonde before anyone…still hood back in the early 90’s! Its disrespectful to say a woman isnt embracing her color just by changing up her looks. Now bleaching skin is something else….
Bey dropped out in 9th grade? That explains so very, very much.
I have to agree with Ana being afrocentric isn’t considered as acceptable as being eurocentric. Look at Mary J Blige she’s always talking about keeping it real and all that yet girlfriend has a blonde weave. Maybe it is just business and marketing? Maybe Beyonce doesn’t have a say or a choice? I mean the bottom line is the mainstream white society prefers black entertainers that conform to whiteness in someway.
Not of one those girls can sing like Whitney Houston, Aretha Franlklin, and many other great black singers of the past. I just believe that today black folks don’t really know what real singing, talent and what “really looks good” is. Few blacks today would support singers who are Afro centric in their attires. Please, stop blaming the white establishment, when so many of the members of the black community have a serious “anti-black agenda”, and a very inclusive, pro mainstream attitude and culture.
Saludos.
Random Fact: Beyonce and the other Destiny’s Child members attended school regularly until the middle of ninth grade. They had to stop going because of career demands. They finished through tutors and correspondence courses. So technically, she did finish high school.
@Orville, I agree that Beyonce looks silly with the hair. And you make such a great point that how many dark girls are on Cosmo ? You hit the nail on the head.
I really do not like blonde hair on MJB lol! I think it is great there are so many diverse opinions on this topic. It is great
@byrdparker — did she really drop-out? well I still love her, she is heavy and not in the physical sense, she is just birlliant lol. She was 16 when no-no made it big and that means she must have been in year 11. incredible. I am a Beyonce stan I know because anyone else, I would be raising my eyebrows.
@memphiz — lol, we may have to agree to disagree on MJB. i love her singing but that hair…hmm
@brigitte — I really do not think it looks whorish on her either.
expect a post tomorrow people!
@ Byrdparker…
I didn’t know she dropped out of school in the 9th grade.
Blond hair isn’t the exclusive property of white people just like full lips and botoms don’t just belong to us anymore thanks to plastic surgery and fried food. I don’t hate blond hair on some black celebs (MJB is a good example) but this particular hair color and style on Beyonce looks bad not “whorish” (who would write something like that anyway?)
I would however like to see more top black celebs embracing natural hairstyles, or at least wearing their own hair.
I dont think there’s nothing wrong with wearing blonde hair as long as it looks good on you. I think that keyshia cole and mary j hair looks good. As for B. this is a little over the top! I used to wear blonde hair and I thought it looked good lol.
i meant to say everything online is just a show ! sorry
these celebs are brainwashed , they do weird things , just to sell image whether positive or negative to make a buck .
Aulelia , i know you think she is talented , but the girl is overated . She is a walking barbie that wears wigs everyday .
Bey dropped out of school in the ninth grade, what more do you expect from her , she seems stuck in the ninth grade mode , we all know getting a ged is not the same as going to school.
Maybe I am out of line , but i really feel everything is just a line a show , thier is no stock in what the blogs are saying !!!! Most blogs such as cd / bossip / and other so called black entertainement blogs , are getting info from the pr dept of said celeb or said celebs record label . They become agent provocatuers to believing in the old adage any press is good press. It has truly turned into bloodsucking , and sucubusing( maybe not a work) off of celebs for just fame in money . Now a suggestion , is just a click away !
The blogs have now surpassed the magazines , and more money is to be made .. The internet is wonderful , but don’t get hoodwinked!!!!
Orville said: Rihanna is the “new” Beyonce in the sense she is being marketed as the new “light skinned” black girl that can crossover to the white mainstream.
That’s basically it. The media is always looking for a token with cross-over appeal and they’ve got it with Rihanna.
I don’t have anything against Ri. She’s manufactured pop and not a great singer but very few women on the charts are.
As for Bey, I really don’t think this hair suits her.
Rihanna is the “new” Beyonce in the sense she is being marketed as the new “light skinned” black girl that can crossover to the white mainstream. Rihanna is on the cover of Cosmo! How many dark skinned black women get on the cover of Cosmo? I recall Beyonce, and Halle Berry were the only black women on the cover of Cosmo in the last five years and they aren’t dark skinned.
Let me know if I am out of line because I am a man but I think Beyonce looks silly. Mary J Blige also rocks the blonde weave yet she goes on and on about loving her blackness. I don’t get it? Maybe its because I am a male? I think if black women want to wear weaves that’s fine. However, the emphasis on the blonde weave I believe relates to whiteness. Society is sending a message to black women the closer black women are to whiteness the more palatable they become.
I just don’t think the blonde hair suits her. I think the power of Eurocentricism is so ingrained in our society we don’t even realize it. Now let me say as a black man I am ignorant about weaves, perms, and all that stuff. I think women have a right to feel, sexy, pretty, attractive. In the Occidental world it appears to me a woman’s beauty is based on how long her hair is regardless of race? I think this is hair politics.
I think that wig looks like a hot ass mess and she look like a damn fool wearing it. Her hair (wigs) always are over the top, not youthful, 10 feet long and/or puffy.
I don’t dig her hair game; never have.
At least Rhianna’s look is youthful (age-appropriate for her), fun and sassy and she changes is up. I give her that. I think she beats Bey hands down in the hair game.
All Bey do is wear some giant blonde mane and it always makes her look like an old woman. It’s old, now. She should opt for a more fun look. Uh, go out on a limb — experiment. You ain’t 80.
As for blonde hair on black women — it’s okay — but only for a tiny handful of women with very specific coloring — usually brownish. I think it generally doesn’t look good on women who are light or dark. There are exceptions to the light and dark rule; but few.
And only “certain” brown-skinned women, in my view, can really pull it off — those with a caramely color to them.
That’s my opinion.
I also think it almost always looks better when it’s very short. And I think blonde braids are hideous.
@ Aisha
cosign witchu about the reason for Rhianna’s popularity.
I think blonde hair can look great on a black woman provided the shade of blonde used matches her complexion. I have blonde highlights and I think it jazzes up my look and makes my hair texture stand out ( I am natural). With that being said, I think that long, straight blonde weaves are another issue entirely.
I agree about Rihanna’s lack of talent. She’s famous because she’s marketable (pretty, young, moldable)not because she can sing.
I agree. I think she looks ridiculous with this wig. I also agree that Rihanna is a wack singer. I’m not a huge Beyonce fan, but she can blow way better than “Ri-Ri”. *rolls eyes*
As a proud dreadhead, I’m personally sick and tired of seeing straight blonde hair, especially on women of color. We as people of color have been so brainwashed about beauty standards that we take them on and even defend them.
